Claude AI is a next-generation AI assistant based on Anthropic’s research into training helpful, honest, and harmless AI systems. They are offering two versions of Claude today: Claude and Claude Instant. Claude is a state-of-the-art high-performance model, while Claude Instant is a lighter, less expensive, and much faster option.

Claude can help with use cases including summarization, search, creative and collaborative writing, Q&A, coding, and more.

Before releasing it broadly, Calude gone through alpha testing with partners like Notion, Quora, and DuckDuckGo.

So far Claude has 2.0 and Claude 2.1 version.

How to use Claude AI

Browse Claude website, Register your email ID. After few pages, you should be able to see chat page. Where you can start interacting with Claude.

Use cases

Claude models tend to perform well at general, open-ended conversation; search, writing, editing, outlining, and summarizing text; coding; and providing helpful advice about a broad range of subjects. 

Claude models are particularly well suited to support creative or literary use cases. They can take direction on tone and “personality,” and users have described them as feeling steerable and conversational.

Summarise text

You can attach files like pdf, csv, txt etc., which can be 10MB each and maximum 5 files at a time and ask it to summarise. It does not support Excel sheet.

Also if you want to get summary of large text you can copy it and paste it in prompt and click on start new chat it will provide summary. You can also ask questions about text you copied.
Its context window is long you can expect roughly 150,000 words depending on the type of content.

API integration

Claude API can be integrated with your application. Your application is expected to text to API, then receives a response via server sent events. You can refer API Documentation, also they have example code in Python and Typescript.

Available on Amazon Bedrock

Claude is now available on AWS, Amazon Bedrock, fully managed service. Currently available in preview. You can perform API calls using AWS Lambda functions.

System prompt

A well-written system prompt can improve Claude’s performance in a variety of ways.

For example, using system prompts enables Claude to stay more deeply in character in role play scenarios. When assigning Claude a role via a system prompt, Claude:

  • Maintains personality for longer conversations
  • Is more resilient against attempts to break it out of character
  • Exhibits more creative and natural behavior
